Vice President – Development/Marketing
This newly created position is responsible for working at a strategic level to carry out the planning, implementation and ongoing management of CAPS development program. Programming may include annual appeal, major gifts targeted campaigns, planned giving, special events and general fund raising. The focus of this position will be major gift management and planned gift development. This position also oversees the marketing function at CAPS. The position is supported by two staff, one in Marketing and one in Special Events/Development.
Successful candidates should have a proven track record of success in development positions of increasing responsibility and demonstrate a broad understanding of the development field. A Bachelors degree in social work, business or related field is required. A minimum of 5 years experience in development related roles is necessary.

The CEO/President of CAPS leads a major nonprofit organization in Elkhart County, Indiana. CAPS has a history of over thirty years of service to our community. The mission of CAPS is to “value children, strengthen families, and prevent child abuse in Elkhart County.”
This position sets the overall strategic goals and objectives of the organization. With the Chairman of the Board, the CEO enables the Board to fulfill its governance function. The CEO gives direction and leadership toward the achievement of the organization’s philosophy, mission, strategy, and its annual goals and objectives.
Overview of Primary Responsibility Areas:
1. Board Administration and Support—participates with governing board in charting and implementing the organizations mission, vision, and strategic plan in response to the changing needs of the community and service area. Interfaces between board and staff.
2. Development and Community Relations
Actively participates in community organizations, philanthropic & professional associations and service clubs to build a strong brand identity for CAPS. Encourages the integration of the organization with the community through effective communication and public relations programs.
Brings community awareness to issues related to Child Abuse Prevention
Develops & maintains a personal relationship with major donors, routinely scheduling informational meetings. Attend, with development staff, meetings to request significant donations.
Continually develops and markets existing programs and new programs to ensure organizational growth and community support while presenting the organization and its mission in a strong, positive manner to relevant stakeholders and potential donors.
3. Programs
Ensures that CAPS programs are continually evaluated to ensure they are effective in meeting the needs of the community
Monitors community needs and trends and stays current on opportunities at the state and national level. Stays current on research & trends in the field of Child Abuse Prevention. Develops strategic program recommendations based on this knowledge
Ensure the provision of affordable child abuse prevention services by the acquisition, utilization and organization of resources (human, financial and physical).
4. Staff and Organizational Management
Coordinates the efforts of staff, board, and administrative staff in the recruitment, development, evaluation, and retention of key personnel. (Sr. Director level and above)
Provides direction to Vice Presidents in establishing departmental
philosophy and objectives related to staffing and performance standards,
policies and procedures, and job classifications
Keeps lines of communication open with all staff to ensure high employee morale
and a professional, healthful atmosphere.
Maintains overall responsibility for the culture of the organization. Ensures appropriate employee relations initiatives are undertaken. Ensures that the agency has viable avenues for employees to raise concerns and monitors follow up.
Responsible for ensuring organizational structure is aligned with organizational strategy
Coordinates the long range financial development and management of the
organization. Oversees development an annual budget and prudently manages these resources
EDUCATION:
Master’s Degree in related area preferred.
EXPERIENCE:
The ideal candidate will have led and strengthened a mission driven organization at an executive level for at least 5 years, and have a track record of increasing responsibility and success in business, government or not-for-profit sectors. Candidates with a Masters Degree preferred.
